CertainTeed Corp, a manufacturer of building materials, was in dire need of a 1500 kVA substation transformer to replace its existing unit which was on its last leg. This transformer was a complex retrofit with cover-mounted bushings and air terminal chambers connecting to high voltage switchgear and low voltage bus duct. In addition to the transformer’s complexity, the project also required an expedited delivery of seven weeks from order receipt to on-site delivery.
Minimizing production downtime is critical in today’s high-volume production processes. Inability to deliver on time for the outage window can cost customers tens of thousands of dollars a day or even per hour of lost production time. Besides the costs of lost production, late deliveries cause the added expense of extending crane time and labor to accommodate the delays.
